How can I backup/restore my SharePoint site?

You can do it with FrontPage 2003.  Open your SharePoint web site in FrontPage, go to "Tools > Server > Backup/Restore Web Site" option, and save the site as a *.FWP archive on your local system (or extract from it in case of restoring).

If you cannot view your lists in Datasheet view and see this message instead:

It means that your local computer does not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed, which is necessary for viewing lists in Datasheet view. How do I create a WebDav connection to my SharePoint site?

To create a WebDav connection to your SharePoint site please take the following steps:

  • Open Windows Explorer. Double click "My Network Places"
  • Double click "Add Network Place"
  • Click "Next"
  • Choose "Choose another network location" option and click "Next"
  • Enter your domain name or IP address of your web server (For eg: http://domainname.com) and click "Next"
  • You will be prompted for username and password, please use your SharePoint login credentials
  • Give a name for the connection and click "Next"
  • Click "Finish"
  • To make a connection go to "My Network Places" and double click the connection you created.
